WHAT TYPE OF WOOD IS USED TO CONSTRUCT THE PALAPAS?
All wood is milled cedar poles. The round stock gives it that authentic look that you see in the tropics.

DO YOU CARRY REPLACEMENT THATCH?
Yes. We carry all replacement thatch for our palapas. To see a list of our thatch products, visit our shop online pages for pricing.

DOES MY PALAPA COME STAINED OR VARNISHED?
Our Palapas come unfinished so that you the customer have the option to finish it how you would like. You also have the option to purchase a Palapa already stained or treated with varnish. Please advise us when ordering your Palapa if you would like it to be stained or varnished. A small fee will be applied to your order.

HOW WELL DOES THE THATCH HOLD UP IN WIND?
The hand woven thatch, if properly installed will withstand winds up to 60 Kilometres per hour. Unlike, a metal or canvas umbrella, the thatching is hand-woven and allows air to flow thru it.

HOW LONG DOES THE THATCH LAST?
In dry climates our hand-woven thatching usually lasts about 3-5 years, and less in more humid climates.

DOES MY PALAPA REQUIRE A GREAT DEAL OF MAINTENANCE?
No. When thatch is new and first exposed to the rain, the thatch sometimes leaches a natural runoff that can spot the ground, but washes right off. To avoid unnecessary cleanup, the thatch should be thoroughly hosed down a couple of times a year. In colder climates, with longer exposure to damp weather, mould may slightly build up on your thatch. Simply play the thatch with a bleach/water solution or a mild mould remover from any hardware store. You may need to apply another coat of varnish on the cedar if needed depending on where your Palapa is located.

HOW DO I INSTALL A PALAPA?
It’s easy; all you need to do is dig a 20” diameter hole, thirty inches deep into the ground. Center your Palapa in the dug hole, fill hole with 2-3 bags of ready mix concrete. Level and temporarily brace your Palapa until the concrete sets. Once the concrete sets, remove your temporary braces, install the 8 main arms with cross supports and braces. Install supplied manila rope around the outside edges. Apply the thatch umbrella to the frame of your Palapa and tie down with small pieces of manila rope. Pour yourself an icy cold drink and enjoy!!!
